We recently converted from the LegacyReset to the new reset framework
in commit c009a311e9 ("virtio-mem: Use new Resettable framework instead
of LegacyReset") to be able to use the ResetType to filter out wakeup
resets.
However, this change had an undesired implications: as we override the
Resettable interface methods in VirtIOMEMClass, the reset handler will
not only get called during system resets (i.e., qemu_devices_reset())
but also during any direct or indirect device rests (e.g.,
device_cold_reset()).
Further, we might now receive two reset callbacks during
qemu_devices_reset(), first when reset by a parent and later when reset
directly.
The memory state of virtio-mem devices is rather special: it's supposed to
be persistent/unchanged during most resets (similar to resetting a hard
disk will not destroy the data), unless actually cold-resetting the whole
system (different to a hard disk where a reboot will not destroy the data):
ripping out system RAM is something guest OSes don't particularly enjoy,
but we want to detect when rebooting to an OS that does not support
virtio-mem and wouldn't be able to detect+use the memory -- and we want
to force-defragment hotplugged memory to also shrink the usable device
memory region. So we rally want to catch system resets to do that.
On supported targets (e.g., x86), getting a cold reset on the
device/parent triggers is not that easy (but looks like PCI code
might trigger it), so this implication went unnoticed.
However, with upcoming s390x support it is problematic: during
kdump, s390x triggers a subsystem reset, ending up in
s390_machine_reset() and calling only subsystem_reset() instead of
qemu_devices_reset() -- because it's not a full system reset.
In subsystem_reset(), s390x performs a device_cold_reset() of any
TYPE_VIRTUAL_CSS_BRIDGE device, which ends up resetting all children,
including the virtio-mem device. Consequently, we wrongly detect a system
reset and unplug all device memory, resulting in hotplugged memory not
getting included in the crash dump -- undesired.
We really must not mess with hotplugged memory state during simple
device resets. To fix, create+register a new reset object that will only
get triggered during qemu_devices_reset() calls, but not during any other
resets as it is logically not the child of any other object.

In virtio-net.c we assume that the IP length field in the packet is
aligned, and we copy its address into a uint16_t* in the
VirtioNetRscUnit struct which we then dereference later. This isn't
a safe assumption; it will also result in compilation failures if we
mark the ip_header struct as QEMU_PACKED because the compiler will
not let you take the address of an unaligned struct field.
Make the ip_plen field in VirtioNetRscUnit a void*, and make all the
places where we read or write through that pointer instead use some
new accessor functions read_unit_ip_len() and write_unit_ip_len()
which account for the pointer being potentially unaligned and also do
the network-byte-order conversion we were previously using htons() to
perform.

Coverity reports (CID 1564769, 1564770) that we potentially overflow
by doing some 32x32 multiplies for something that ends up in a 64 bit
value. Fix this by first using stride for all lines and casting input
to uint64_t to ensure a 64 bit multiply is used.

During the hot-unplugging of vhost-user-net type network cards,
the vhost_user_cleanup function may add the same rcu node to
the rcu linked list. The function call in this case is as follows:

The reason for the abort is that adding two identical nodes to
the rcu linked list will cause the rcu linked list to become a ring,
but when the dummy node is added after the two identical nodes,
the ring is opened. But only one node is added to list with
rcu_call_count added twice. This will cause rcu try_dequeue abort.
This happens when n->addr != 0. In some scenarios, this does happen.
For example, this situation will occur when using a 32-queue DPU
vhost-user-net type network card for hot-unplug testing, because
VhostUserHostNotifier->addr will be cleared during the processing of
VHOST_USER_BACKEND_VRING_HOST_NOTIFIER_MSG. However,it is asynchronous,
so we cannot guarantee that VhostUserHostNotifier->addr is zero in
vhost_user_cleanup. Therefore, it is necessary to merge g_free_rcu
and vhost_user_host_notifier_free into one rcu node.

virtio_gpu_virgl_get_num_capsets will return "num_capsets", but we can't
assume that capset_index 1 is always VIRGL2 once we'll support more capsets,
like Venus and DRM capsets. Register capsets dynamically to avoid that problem.

virtio_gpu_virgl_init() may fail, leading to a further Qemu crash
because Qemu assumes it never fails. Check virtio_gpu_virgl_init()
return code and don't execute virtio commands on error. Failed
virtio_gpu_virgl_init() will result in a timed out virtio commands
for a guest OS.

LegacyReset does not pass ResetType to the reset callback method, which
the new Resettable framework uses. Due to this, virtio-mem cannot use
the new RESET_TYPE_WAKEUP to skip the reset during wake-up from a
suspended state.
This patch adds overrides Resettable interface methods in VirtIOMEMClass
to use the new Resettable framework and replaces
qemu_[un]register_reset() calls with qemu_[un]register_resettable().

This allows the vhost_net device which has multiple virtqueues to batch
the setup of all its host notifiers. This significantly reduces the
vhost_net device starting and stoping time, e.g. the time spend
on enabling notifiers reduce from 630ms to 75ms and the time spend on
disabling notifiers reduce from 441ms to 45ms for a VM with 192 vCPUs
and 15 vhost-user-net devices (64vq per device) in our case.

Historically, .get_vhost() was probably only called when
vdev->vhost_started is true. However, we now decidedly want to call it
also when vhost_started is false, specifically so we can issue a reset
to the vhost back-end while device operation is stopped.
Some .get_vhost() implementations dereference some pointers (or return
offsets from them) that are probably guaranteed to be non-NULL when
vhost_started is true, but not necessarily otherwise. This patch makes
all such implementations check all such pointers, returning NULL if any
is NULL.

Patch 06b1297017 ("virtio-net: fix network stall under load")
added double-check to test whether the available buffer size
can satisfy the request or not, in case the guest has added
some buffers to the avail ring simultaneously after the first
check. It will be lucky if the available buffer size becomes
okay after the double-check, then the host can send the packet
to the guest. If the buffer size still can't satisfy the request,
even if the guest has added some buffers, viritio-net would
stall at the host side forever.
The patch enables notification and checks whether the guest has
added some buffers since last check of available buffers when
the available buffers are insufficient. If no buffer is added,
return false, else recheck the available buffers in the loop.
If the available buffers are sufficient, disable notification
and return true.
Changes:
1. Change the return type of virtqueue_get_avail_bytes() from void
to int, it returns an opaque that represents the shadow_avail_idx
of the virtqueue on success, else -1 on error.
2. Add a new API: virtio_queue_enable_notification_and_check(),
it takes an opaque as input arg which is returned from
virtqueue_get_avail_bytes(). It enables notification firstly,
then checks whether the guest has added some buffers since
last check of available buffers or not by virtio_queue_poll(),
return ture if yes.
The patch also reverts patch "06b1297017".
The case below can reproduce the stall.

After some time, the host loses connection to the guest,
the guest can send packet to the host, but can't receive
packet from the host.
It's more likely to happen if SWIOTLB is enabled in the guest,
allocating and freeing bounce buffer takes some CPU ticks,
copying from/to bounce buffer takes more CPU ticks, compared
with that there is no bounce buffer in the guest.
Once the rate of producing packets from the host approximates
the rate of receiveing packets in the guest, the guest would
loop in NAPI.

On the other hand, the host fetches free buf from avail
ring, if the buf in the avail ring is not enough, the
host notifies the guest the event by writing the avail
idx read from avail ring to the event idx of used ring,
then the host goes to sleep, waiting for the kick signal
from the guest.
Once the guest finds the host is waiting for kick singal
(in virtqueue_kick_prepare_split()), it kicks the host.
The host may stall forever at the sequences below:

In the first loop of NAPI above, indicated in the range of
virtnet_poll above, the host is sending packets while the
guest is receiving packets and adding buffers.
step 1: The buf is not enough, for example, a big packet
needs 5 buf, but the available buf count is 3.
The host read current avail idx.
step 2: The guest adds some buf, then checks whether the
host is waiting for kick signal, not at this time.
The used ring is not empty, the guest continues
the second loop of NAPI.
step 3: The host writes the avail idx read from avail
ring to used ring as event idx via
virtio_queue_set_notification(q->rx_vq, 1).
step 4: At the end of the second loop of NAPI, recheck
whether kick is needed, as the event idx in the
used ring written by the host is beyound the
range of kick condition, the guest will not
send kick signal to the host.

Now we have switched to PCIIOMMUOps to convey host IOMMU information,
the host reserved regions are transmitted when the PCIe topology is
built. This happens way before the virtio-iommu driver calls the probe
request. So let's remove the probe_done flag that allowed to check
the probe was not done before the IOMMU MR got enabled. Besides this
probe_done flag had a flaw wrt migration since it was not saved/restored.
The only case at risk is if 2 devices were plugged to a
PCIe to PCI bridge and thus aliased. First of all we
discovered in the past this case was not properly supported for
neither SMMU nor virtio-iommu on guest kernel side: see

Add the boolean 'in_order_filled' member to the VirtQueueElement structure.
The use of this boolean will signify whether the element has been processed
and is ready to be flushed (so long as the element is in-order). This
boolean is used to support the VIRTIO_F_IN_ORDER feature.

The unrealize functions of the various vhost-user devices are
calling the corresponding vhost_*_set_status() functions with a
status of 0 to shut down the device correctly.
Now these vhost_*_set_status() functions all follow this scheme:

The problem here is virtio_device_should_start(vdev, 0) currently
always returns "true" since it internally only looks at vdev->started
instead of looking at the "status" parameter. Thus once the device
got started once, virtio_device_should_start() always returns true
and thus the vhost_*_set_status() functions return early, without
ever doing any clean-up when being called with status == 0. This
causes e.g. problems when trying to hot-plug and hot-unplug a vhost
user devices multiple times since the de-initialization step is
completely skipped during the unplug operation.
This bug has been introduced in commit 9f6bcfd99f ("hw/virtio: move
vm_running check to virtio_device_started") which replaced
should_start = status & VIRTIO_CONFIG_S_DRIVER_OK;
with
should_start = virtio_device_started(vdev, status);
which later got replaced by virtio_device_should_start(). This blocked
the possibility to set should_start to false in case the status flag
VIRTIO_CONFIG_S_DRIVER_OK was not set.
Fix it by adjusting the virtio_device_should_start() function to
only consider the status flag instead of vdev->started. Since this
function is only used in the various vhost_*_set_status() functions
for exactly the same purpose, it should be fine to fix it in this
central place there without any risk to change the behavior of other
code.

In current code, when guest does S3, virtio-gpu are reset due to the
bit No_Soft_Reset is not set. After resetting, the display resources
of virtio-gpu are destroyed, then the display can't come back and only
show blank after resuming.
Implement No_Soft_Reset bit of PCI_PM_CTRL register, then guest can check
this bit, if this bit is set, the devices resetting will not be done, and
then the display can work after resuming.
No_Soft_Reset bit is implemented for all virtio devices, and was tested
only on virtio-gpu device. Set it false by default for safety.

Since the current patch cannot completely fix the lost reconnect
problem, there is a scenario that is not considered:
- When the virtio-blk driver is removed from the guest os,
s->connected has no chance to be set to false, resulting in
subsequent reconnection not being executed.
The next patch will completely fix this issue with a better approach.

Add support to virtio-pci devices for handling the extra data sent
from the driver to the device when the VIRTIO_F_NOTIFICATION_DATA
transport feature has been negotiated.
The extra data that's passed to the virtio-pci device when this
feature is enabled varies depending on the device's virtqueue
layout.
In a split virtqueue layout, this data includes:
- upper 16 bits: shadow_avail_idx
- lower 16 bits: virtqueue index
In a packed virtqueue layout, this data includes:
- upper 16 bits: 1-bit wrap counter & 15-bit shadow_avail_idx
- lower 16 bits: virtqueue index

On setups with one or more virtio-net devices with vhost on,
dirty tracking iteration increases cost the bigger the number
amount of queues are set up e.g. on idle guests migration the
following is observed with virtio-net with vhost=on:
48 queues -> 78.11% [.] vhost_dev_sync_region.isra.13
8 queues -> 40.50% [.] vhost_dev_sync_region.isra.13
1 queue -> 6.89% [.] vhost_dev_sync_region.isra.13
2 devices, 1 queue -> 18.60% [.] vhost_dev_sync_region.isra.14
With high memory rates the symptom is lack of convergence as soon
as it has a vhost device with a sufficiently high number of queues,
the sufficient number of vhost devices.
On every migration iteration (every 100msecs) it will redundantly
query the *shared log* the number of queues configured with vhost
that exist in the guest. For the virtqueue data, this is necessary,
but not for the memory sections which are the same. So essentially
we end up scanning the dirty log too often.
To fix that, select a vhost device responsible for scanning the
log with regards to memory sections dirty tracking. It is selected
when we enable the logger (during migration) and cleared when we
disable the logger. If the vhost logger device goes away for some
reason, the logger will be re-selected from the rest of vhost
devices.
After making mem-section logger a singleton instance, constant cost
of 7%-9% (like the 1 queue report) will be seen, no matter how many
queues or how many vhost devices are configured:

Commit dfcf74fa ("virtio-gpu: fix scanout migration post-load") broke
forward/backward version migration. Versioning of nested VMSD structures
is not straightforward, as the wire format doesn't have nested
structures versions. Introduce x-scanout-vmstate-version and a field
test to save/load appropriately according to the machine version.

aw-bits is a new option that allows to set the bit width of
the input address range. This value will be used as a default for
the device config input_range.end. By default it is set to 64 bits
which is the current value.

This allows to choose which granule will be used by
default by the virtio-iommu. Current page size mask
default is qemu_target_page_mask so this translates
into a 4k granule on ARM and x86_64 where virtio-iommu
is supported.

This patch adds support for VDPA network simulation devices.
The device is developed based on virtio-net and tap backend,
and supports hardware live migration function.

The current post-loading code for scanout has a FIXME: it doesn't take
the resource region/rect into account. But there is more, when adding
blob migration support in commit f66767f75c, I didn't realize that blob
resources could be used for scanouts. This situationn leads to a crash
during post-load, as they don't have an associated res->image.
virtio_gpu_do_set_scanout() handle all cases, but requires the
associated virtio_gpu_framebuffer, which is currently not saved during
migration.
Add a v2 of "virtio-gpu-one-scanout" with the framebuffer fields, so we
can restore blob scanouts, as well as fixing the existing FIXME.

Initially was implemented for libvirt to launch qemu without permissions,
and initialized eBPF program through the helper.
