error: Use error_fatal to simplify obvious fatal errors (again)

Patch created mechanically by rerunning:

    $ spatch --in-place --sp-file scripts/coccinelle/use-error_fatal.cocci \
	     --macro-file scripts/cocci-macro-file.h --use-gitgrep .

Variables now unused dropped manually.
